While the line between fans over which is the better version of Blade Runner continues to be drawn, I think most will agree that it was just wrong to be "stuck" with only the Director's Cut of the film. And apparently so did Warner Home Video who finally righted their previous wrong with all new multi-disc sets like this Blade Runner (Four-Disc Collector's Edition). Comprised of 4 versions of the cult sci-fi classic (including director Ridley Scott's phenomenal new Final Cut) this 4-disc (single-sided) box set promises something for every Blade Runner fan, regardless of preference. Though all three complete archival versions: 1982 U.S. Theatrical Cut, 1982 International Theatrical Cut and 1992 Director's Cut are digitally restored and remastered for enhanced picture and audio, they pale in comparison to the 2007 Final Cut which incorporates New Footage and never before seen Special Effects and boasts 3 filmmaker Commentaries. All 4 versions include introduction by director Ridley Scott and feature English Dolby Surround 5.1 audio plus the following additional audio features: English & French Dolby Surround Stereo audio (Archival Versions on Disc 3) and French Dolby Surround 5.1 audio (Final Cut on Disc 1). Order Quantum of Solace [Blu-ray]

Although Quantum of Solace starts where Casino Royale left off, this Bond film does not hold its own with the earlier movie. Daniel Craig is back as Bond, and if it weren't for him and Judi Dench as M, this movie would have been a complete waste.

In this film, Bond is out of control and angry because of what happened in Casino Royale. M is deeply worried about his behavior and whether she can trust him as an agent. As Bond pursues the connections behind an assassination attempt on M, he uncovers Dominic Greene, a weaselly entrepreneur who seems on the surface to be a protector of the environment when, really, he has more devious plans. The violence here seems too set up, as though the screenwriters wanted to dispense entirely with real plot and instead string together some really cool explosions and chase scenes. Let's fact it: those action scenes are only exciting when you care about what is happening. Or you can tell what's happening. If Casino Royale lost focus for ten minutes or so near the end, this one has hardly any focus at all. It seems as though it ended several times over.

That's not to say that the film is terrible. Lackluster would be a better word. Bond aficionados should see it just to complete the viewing experience, especially since the current rights holders seem determined to build more of a Bond history, one film after the next. Daniel Craig remains one of my favorite Bonds -- gritty and flawed and whip-smart.

Perfect TV series, I've had it about a month now and I've already watched it about 3 times. probably wouldn't bother with the blue ray though if I had it to do again since the series was made before HD. Shop For Gladiator (Sapphire Series) [Blu-ray]

Although I own the regular DVD version of Gladiator, I figured I may as well upgrade to Blu-ray since it was on sale. Needless to say, I recommend saving your money and spending it elsewhere. Heck, gambling it away on lottery tickets may garner a more quantifiable return than the visual mess contained on this disc. It seems the technicians went on holiday and left the Blu-ray conversion process to the interns; that, or the studio had a lens filter on loan from Janice Dickenson. Every single prior review is precisely accurate regarding the dismal toll DNR and EE have taken on what could have been a cinematic pleasure. To use an analogy; it's like living in the monkey house. After a while, one becomes acclimated to the terrible smell of dung, to such an extent one no longer notices the pungent odor. Whoever remastered Gladiator to this poor excuse for "Blu-ray" must have been so accustomed to seeing the same fuzzy and distorted images, they were incapable of realizing what a gratuitous and utterly worthless product they developed.Get more detail about Gladiator (Sapphire Series) [Blu-ray].

District 9 [Blu-ray] Review

Generally speaking, i just did not care very much for this movie. Maybe it's just a personal thing, but after the novelty of the cool-looking aliens wore off, I just got tired of the lack of plot and the poor script. The special effects though, were good.Get more detail about District 9 [Blu-ray].

2001: A Space Odyssey [Blu-ray] Top Quality

I can't help but think that you have to be the product of a much older generation to fully appreciate this movie. Our culture has morphed greatly over the decades since 2001 was released. Our perceptions of the world around us are different than those who were around in the late 60's, so watching 2001 for us in the newer generation is like looking back in hindsight at the minds of generations past.

Having said that, 2001 is the worst movie I have ever seen. This is three hours of the most boring uninteresting cinema I have ever witnessed. The vast majority of the film is pretty pictures set to elevator music with most everything happening in what seems like real time. Some examples:

1) Want to know how long it takes to exit a space ship for routine ship repair? FOR FU*#ING EVER!

2) How about the same scene of the moon rotating in the same damn window framed in grey with no edit or cut away for 10 damn minutes with the same damn music playing over and OVER and OVER AGAIN?

3) Do I need to know (and SEE) that it takes 5 WHOLE MINUTES for a hatch to open up into space? DO I??? REALLY?!? AND HOW MANY TIMES DO I NEED TO SEE IT??? WAS ONCE NOT ENOUGH?!?

Add in 30 minutes of Dave unplugging/killing HAL, 25 minutes of astronauts holding there helmets in pain from the annoying alien dog whistle/radio signal with accompanying choir/orchestra music, a 15 minute intermission of screeching madness against the pitch black "monolith" of the TV screen, a 40 minute trip thru a crayon-colored time-warped hyperspace Dr. Who tunnel with still shots of Dave trying out for Madonna's "vogue" video, and 2 or 3 months of real-time space flight (with elevator music), and you have the DULLEST MOVIE EVER MADE!!!Get more detail about 2001: A Space Odyssey [Blu-ray].
